In many cases, instructors who gain TEFL certification for teaching English to foreign students find themselves in a position to put their newly gained skills to work right away. Often, they have taken TEFL training while holding a teaching position, often in a school with immediate need for TEFL teachers. On the other hand, many recent graduates of a TEFL course realize that the techniques taught need practice and experience. Those that hire TEFL teachers often realize the same thing, requiring that instructors hoping to teach at their institution not only have TEFL credentials, but carry at least a year of experience teaching Which TEFL course as well.
In some ways, the principals learned in TEFL training are part of a continuous education program, not just a closed course. One of these is the Learning English Video Project (TLEVP).
The TLEVP is a seven part film series. It was filmed to document some of the most effective techniques that have been employed for teaching English across the world. The man responsible for the series is independent UK filmmaker Daniel Emmerson.
Each of the seven parts of the film focuses on a particular area of the world that is invested in some way in increasing the knowledge of English in its populace. It includes the USA, which is one of the most prosperous nations that drive the universal use of English in the world, particularly in the world of business. It includes China, which has its own impetus (a growing competence and presence in the world marketing because of superior manufacturing practices) and yet wishes to improve its already attractive position in world finances. It also includes Brazil, one of the nations that see inculcating English into its youth as a way to improve the poor economic conditions of the country, and to bring Brazil more in line with its more

prosperous neighbors, particularly the U.S. Other featured countries include Romania, Span, and the UK.
The goal of the TLEVP film series is designed around three goals. The first is to create a framework for objectively examining the disparate ways of teaching English across the globe. Many see this as a way for teachers of one nation to see something completely different in techniques from another nation. This presents all teachers an opportunity to take the best from the techniques that have been developed across the world. The second goal is to provide an entertaining vehicle to motivate and encourage students seeking to learn English. The third goal is to serve as a teaching tool itself. Along these lines, the English-speaking film serves as a listening comprehension exercise. It comes with teaching tools including subtitles, vocabulary, transcripts, and exercises to be used both in class and during homework.
TEFL training allows teachers to recognize and understand even more ways to increase their ability for Teaching English as a foreign language.
